As we have said elsewhere on this website, when first setting up a breeding herd, we believe that a minimum of three females is best for a stress-free breeding group. Ideally, there should be at least one older, more experienced female as the leader (Morganne in this case, see below), so that the social structure - so important for happy alpacas - is well-established at the outset. Also, we avoid matings & births between late autumn to early spring, as this can be another source of problems, particularly for the first-time breeder. For more information on setting up a breeding herd, read our "Starting Out with Alpacas" guide.

We would be happy to change the composition of this starter herd package according to your requirements. We can also provide attractive deals on subsequent matings to some of the best stud males in the UK.

Morganne

Prizewinning Black Female
proven mother & pregnant to prizewinning black stud

IgraineWhite alpaca cria

Comments: A very attractive prizewinning black female and a proven mother, Morganne has a blue-black fleece with excellent density and coverage. Her fleece quality and excellent conformation won 2nd place in her class (black adult female) at the Royal Bath & West Show in 2004, Europe's largest Alpaca event.  Morganne has an excellent pedigree with particularly good black genetics sired by the famous prizewinning stud Shaft's Dream of Arunvale (also solid black).

To show the excellent quality of her progeny, you can see Raven, (shown here but not included in the price) a handsome solid black male cria at foot, who already looks most promising.  This should be no surprise, as his Sire is Witness (click on link for details), a solid black stud who has won multiple prizes against stiff competition in the Australian Shows in 2005, including Reserve Champion against white males.

With four generations of black genetics and so many prizewinners in his bloodlines, is Raven a new stud in the making?  We'll let you judge. We were so happy with the result, that Morganne has been remated to Witness again this year.

Ailleann

Proven mother
and pregnant to prizewinning black stud

Nivetta & cria

Comments: Ailleann has a particularly fine blue-black fleece with a soft handle.  A proven mother, she has always thrown good looking cria with solid colour.  Her latest cria is Roland, (shown here but not included in the price) a solid chocolate brown boy sired by the multiple prizewinning stud Witness (click on link for more details) .

This year we have mated her to Centurion (click on link for details), one of the best black males in the UK.  He has won the Adult Black Male Class no less than six times in 2006 and 2007, including the BAS National Show in consecutive years.  This give the buyer the benefit of prizewinning black genetics from two of the top black stud males currently working in the UK .

Anna
Maiden female with prizewinning colour genetics

Clarisse

Comments:
A well built yearling female with a fine (21 micron) and very dark brown (almost – but not quite black) fleece.  Her bloodlines combine some of the best prizewinning colour genetics.  Her granddam is the prizewinning Morganne, (see above) one of our best black females with top quality genetics.  Her grandsire is also a renowned prize winner,
The Golden Gun of Arunvale, a famous medium fawn stud who won Reserve Champion for Senior Male at the Royal Bath & West 2003 and the Royal Show 2004.

Daddy is Discovery (click on link for details), an impressive black male offering four generations of black genetics. She will soon be ready to start breeding, and with her strong colour bloodlines, we should expect some great results.

SouthWest Alpacas is an independent UK alpaca breeder, based in Devon, south west England, UK. We took up alpaca breeding for their wonderful fleece, not to mention their calm temperament, and the simplicity of farming alpacas. Their luxurious natural fibre is light, strong, soft & warm, and it comes in 22 natural colours, from a true rich black, through chocolate brown and russet, as well as various shades of grey, honey and fawn, to a light champagne and finally pure white. It also holds dye very well, which makes alpaca fibre ideal for organic or hypoallergenic clothing & fashion, from hats to gloves, jumpers & scarves or scarfs. Alpaca fibre is an untreated natural fabric, making it ideal for people with allergies & sensitive skin. Our website offers a wealth of information on alpaca breeding, alpaca fleeces & alpaca yarns. We also offer links for information on luxury knitwear - designer knitwear - alpaca clothing & knitwear - as well as alpaca fur toy animals.
